Common Symbols for Kundalini in Dreams: Fire and Flame

Fire: A Symbol of Light and Purification

In a series of blogs on kundalini energy as it appears in dreams, Kundalini can be symbolized by fire in dreams.I have written about snakes and volcanoes as being important symbols.  Fire and flames are also dramatic and powerful symbols for kundalini energy, and when they occur in dreams, it is hard to forget.   The dream is very wise to choose this symbol to convey the workings of kundalini energy because fire is similar to kundalini in that it burns away all that is harmful or not necessary and brings light to guide those touched by its energy.

Working with a Fire Dream

Dreams about things burning can have many meanings on the physical and spiritual level, but first and foremost one should look for a spiritual meaning because all dreams have a spiritual message at some level, and fire dreams are particularly connected to the work of the spirit.  The imagery of something burning calls to mind the biblical story of Moses and the Burning Bush (Exodus 3:1-17).  A burning object always attracts our attention and focuses our mind on a dramatic transformation that is taking place before us:  the transmutation of something physical into something else such as gas and ash, or in the case of the Burning Bush, the presence of a divine being because the expected transmutation wasn’t taking place.  Spirituality is about transformation and being in the presence of the divine.

As in dreams about snakes and volcanoes, one has to ask what is going one in one’s life so that fire and flame appear.  A fire dream may be merely an expression of one’s fears about a house catching fire because of fire hazards in the house.  However, if one is experiencing strong kundalini energy in one’s body, it may be giving the dreamer a chance to observe what this energy is doing and how it can be managed.

Dream: My Car is on Fire

I am with a friend and some other people. They have just come out of a store.  I invite them into my car since I can seat 6 people.  When I start the car, a little alert icon on the dashboard goes on and I yell for everyone to get out.  The car is on fire!  Everyone jumps out and is OK.  I want to use my cellphone to call 911 but my friend says not to.

This dream came about a year and a half before I experienced the onset of kundalini energy in my body.  A car can be a symbol for the body or for how we get around in life.  In any case, it was alerting me to the possibility that my life would be affected by a strong energy like fire.  It would cause me fear and concern but the dream is also telling me that I (and the many parts of myself represented by the others) would be OK.  My friend (who is a wise and knowledgeable person in waking life) tells me it is not important to call 911.  This is odd so it makes me think this dream is not predicting something physical but maybe a spiritual process that is meant to happen.  The burning car is a symbol of a transformative process that is OK.

Treating the Symptoms of Kundalini Clearing Energy

Essential oils and herbs can help with kundalini clearing symptoms.

Many people are fascinated by kundalini for its many health and spiritual benefits.  It is known that the energy improves health, promotes longevity and gives paranormal gifts like ESP, the ability to see auras and angels, etc.

For those who actually experience a kundalini awakening, they often do receive these benefits ; however, what they are most often faced with is the profound clearing of negative energy that can take place over a long period of time—energy that often is released with uncomfortable physical accompaniments of “clearing” through bodily processes such as loose bowel movements, nose and chest congestion, headaches, and a host of other discomforts that may last a brief or a significantly long amount of time.

While you are undergoing such a clearing, you may think you have come down with the flu or have caught a cold.  One way to tell this isn’t so is that you actually don’t look sick!  Quite the contrary, you may have a glowing look of health as the body actually rids itself of the negative energy that has been held in memory in the body’s cells.  While you feel off, a good thing is actually happening in your body.

In my experience, at times like this, one should not take the usual stomach, cold or flu medications for these events—this will only add to the substances the body will need to discharge.  It is important to drink plenty of healthy fluids such as water to help with the clearing and try to take it easy by not adding any unnecessary physical activities.  I have found that essential oils and herbs may help ease the symptoms a bit.

What are some other ways to know you are experiencing a clearing and not a cold?

Because so few people in the medical profession understand kundalini, most people with kundalini clearing symptoms will be diagnosed with a cold or the flu, and the usual medications will be prescribed.  Here, the person with the symptoms has to make the final call as to what is actually happening to him or her and decide how to use the medication and if it really helps.  Sometimes, I have found that the medication doesn’t actually work because a cold isn’t what is causing the problem.  While not wanting to challenge the authority of the medical profession, fortunately, there are other ways to get accurate information on a phenomenon not usually recognized by the health professions.  Dreams and insights obtained from intuitive meditation can give you the correct diagnosis, especially if you have learned to trust these avenues of information.  For example, if you have dreams of needing to use the restroom, this is a clear sign you have negative energy that needs to be released.  Also, asking for a dream to give a specific diagnosis to your ailment is possible.  Just make the prayer or intention to have such a dream before you go to bed.  Or before you enter meditation, ask for inspiration that will provide the answers you need.  You may be surprised how helpful your dreams and insights can be!

Spicing Up the Chakras in Dreams

Spicing Up the Chakras in Dreams

In Healing the Chakras in Dreams, I stated that the condition and work of the main seven chakras can be reflected in dreams.  For example, if one dreams of urinating in a bright red bathroom; it could indicate that one is clearing anger about survival issues, or “pissing” in the realm of the first chakra which often manifests itself through the color red, especially when survival issues are at stake.  Through dreams, we can become more aware of the state of our chakras and do something about healing them.  The color in dreams give clues to the chakras because each chakra has is its own color.  Note the color and you can recognize the chakra and issues of that chakras.  (See Healing the Chakras in Dreams for the color correlations.)

One of the ways we can heal chakras is to feed and spice (energize) them, and this can also be done in dreams. The reason is that dreams essentially convey healing energy from centers of energies beyond our own energy field such as divine energy and the energy of loving people.

One way to tell if your chakras are being fed is to dream of eating.  If you dream of eating really delicious-looking, healthy food such as bright colored veggies, it could be a sign that your chakra energy fields are being fed.  For example, last night I had a dream I was digging into a big dish of some beautiful red and green peppers.  In fact, I did eat some red and green peppers the other day and found them to be delicious.  No doubt that inspired the dream.  What the dream was trying to tell me was exactly that:  the activities of my life (and perhaps choosing to eat healthy food was part of it) were feeding the energy of the first chakra (which is red) and the heart chakra (which is green.)  I do know these are two energy centers seemed depleted recently due to challenges and setbacks, so I certainly could use a boost in these areas to keep me confident and courageously open-hearted in my day-to-day endeavors!

Meeting Your Kundalini Guides in Dreams

Dreams can help one meet kundalini energy guides.

A kundalini awakening is a major existential event meant to bring profound change of body, mind and spirit.  One thing is for sure: very little of a person’s “being” will remain the same as the kundalini energy works its way through the body and into one’s life.  Most likely, there will be significant upheavals felt in all areas of life, particularly in one’s career life if one is not already working in a compassionate, service-oriented, creative field.

If ever there was a “This isn’t Kansas anymore” event, the kundalini awakening is it.  It is no wonder that in India kundalini devotees sought out gurus or guides to help them manage the strong energy animating and energizing their being, and make appropriate decisions for living and working with this energy.

For persons living outside of India who experience a kundalini breakthrough, getting a reliable guru can be problematic.  Many people in the Western medical and helping professions like physicians and psychologists haven’t even heard of kundalini, and the chances of being diagnosed with and erroneously treated for some other condition are highly probable.

Dreams Can Introduce You to Your Guides

Because the kundalini experience is so basic and true to the nature of the person, such an event would be long predicted at the dream level for the purpose of preparing the dreamer for this new spiritual development.  Dreams of snakes coming to the dreamer, atomic explosions, lightning rods, and volcanic eruptions may herald the onset of a kundalini awakening.  Along with or after these kinds of dreams, guides will appear who seem to have a connection to the onset of kundalini energy.

Examples: I dreamed of two male guides who wore light blue, close-fitting suits like in the Star Trek TV series.  On their sleeves they wore patches decorated with a lightning rod that gave me a clue they were related to kundalini.  They were guiding me to work situations where my kundalini experience would be of value.  This was a tremendous need at the time because I had been working in a high-stress corporate environment which is nearly impossible to do while experiencing kundalini.  I needed a new career.  A number of years later, I dreamed of these same two guides leading me to another work situation where the kundalini experience would be very valuable in helping people.

Look for Your Guides in Dreams & Request to Meet Them in Dreams

So if you are experiencing kundalini energy, be on the outlook for guides in your dreams that can help you in ways you need helping.  You might even ask to meet such a guide by making such a request before you do to bed at night.

Integrating the Kundalini Experience into Christian Practice

Christianizing Kundalini

The Cross and the Seven Chakras

A kundalini awakening, the release of the primal life force or mother energy, from the base of the spine and moving upward to the brain, is a human phenomenon experienced by some throughout the world but only fully recognized and studied in the Hindu culture as a process of spiritual transformation.   Therefore, when it happens to non-Hindus, it can be a confusing, troubling and even devastating event wreaking havoc in people’s lives, especially in those who do not seek out the awakening or understand its profound spiritual, emotional and physical meanings.   Moreover, kundalini is often misunderstood or misdiagnosed by doctors and psychologists, adding more suffering to those who live with often varied, bizarre and intense symptoms following the experience.

For a devout traditional Christian who finds out what has happened to him or her, it can be even more shocking because the experience is not articulated, promoted or condoned in the Bible or Christian teachings.  A reading of the lives of the saints, however, will tell us that many saints experienced kundalini symptoms on their spiritual journeys.

“Christianizing” Kundalini

A kundalini event, and the changed life that comes after, can be integrated into Christian practice and can greatly inform and aid the believer in spiritual, psychological and physical healing.   When kundalini energy works in the body, it works at the cellular level to cleanse the body of everything that doesn’t belong there—from negative thought patterns to illnesses of every sort.  It is a matter of believing something profound is going on and accepting a process that can at times be painful and disconcerting.  The ego’s defenses weaken by its onslaught, and eventually wear away.   What can the Christian do to bring this process into a Christian framework?

  • Many spiritual gifts will come with this event such as visions and the ability to see auras. Use these gifts to help you along.  For example, when my kundalini energy opened, I had a vision of Jesus standing by me, bringing peace to me during those first frightening symptoms such as intense migraines.  I knew instinctively that something spiritual was happening to me.  I was not “sick.”  I also received the gift to intuitively diagnose physical conditions.  I was told in dreamtime to use this whenever I encountered strange sensations in my body.
  • Therefore, If Jesus or a saint or angel appears, pray to this spiritual being to be your guide in working with the energy so that you may be transformed into the person you are meant to become. Your spiritual guide will provide guidance and support.
  • Pray using energy and healing concepts that blend Hindu and Christian beliefs, if you feel comfortable doing it. An example is my version (others have done something similar) of the Lord’s Prayer, written to show how the points of the prayer coincide with the seven chakras, or energy centers, of Hindu teachings.  Click here to see sample.
  • Do dreamwork by
    • Keeping a dream journal and reflecting on the dreams recorded. Dreams will let you know much about the purpose and the process of your kundalini experience.  They will let you know of the ups and downs, the flow of the energy and the progress you have made in working with the energy.  Also this website contains a number of articles on working with kundalini energy such as Symbols for Kundalini Energy in Dreams: Volcanoes.  Click on “Kundalini in Dreams” under the Topic menu to your left to find these articles as well as other related blogs in “Dreamwork and Christian Practice.”
    • Before going to bed, prayerfully request a dream that will guide you by asking for a certain dream to resolve a specific, stated issue related to the kundalini.

Read about others’ experiences.  I highly recommend a book by Philip St. Romain called Kundalini Energy and Christian Spirituality that describes not only his efforts to deal with the energy but also his attempts to integrate his understanding of this energy into Christian theology.  I have written a short online book digest for this book called Pioneering Christian Kundalini that can be found at The Intuitive-Connections Network website by clicking here.

High Blood Pressure: Getting a Second Opinion from Dreams

BloodPressureKit

Image via Pinterest

On occasion, you and your doctor will be faced with a medical issue which won’t have a clear-cut answer. It is in times like these that getting a second opinion from dreams can be very helpful. By having or asking for a dream that can bring more awareness to the issue you might be gifted with a dream that provides a clear diagnosis, a remedy for the presenting issue or more information on the issue. This happened to me recently.

My overall health situation is very much influenced by the fact that I had a kundalini event about nine years ago. As a result, the heightened energy in my body not only brings me great healing energy and very good health; it also causes my heart to beat more rapidly and my blood pressure to rise when an energy surge is taking place. Because western medicine can’t do much to treat a rapid heartbeat, doctors tend to ignore it once the heart and vascular system are determined to be healthy. High blood pressure is another matter. They want to treat it because they have an arsenal of drugs that will do the job. However, the big question is, if you don’t have the usual medical problems that cause high blood pressure, will drug treatment of high blood pressure be the best way to go—especially when the pressure can return to normal very suddenly?

Kundalini and Blood Pressure

Along with many kundalini experts, I believe that the kundalini energy does influence blood pressure. I would think that just the force of the energy alone going through the body must have an effect on blood pressure. On top of that, any negative energies that get released through the kundalini surge such as anxiety, anger and fear, will also cause blood pressure to rise when the person experiences them in the release. If the person also has “white coat syndrome,” a fear of going to the doctor, there can then be a third factor simultaneously causing the blood pressure to rise—all of which have nothing to do with the actual physical health of the body.  Then there could be added stress factors like having a bad day or dismal week.

Such was my own situation recently. My blood pressures were reading a little on the high side when I visited my doctor. Along with my doctor, we agreed that I would test my blood pressure at home and observe when I felt little if no kundalini and when generally feeling rested and peaceful. Because even taking a home blood pressure makes me nervous, I felt it would great to get some advice from dreams. It turned out that I did receive a most wonderful dream!

Dream: Two male physicians dressed in white coats come up to me. I ask them if they want to take my blood pressure. They tell me they are not worried about my blood pressure.

This dream told me not to worry about my blood pressure. If they aren’t worried, why should I be? The presence of two doctors in the dream told me I was getting not only one opinion but two from the dream! Knowing that, I feel I can relax more so that I can give a more true reading of blood pressure in a relaxed state. To be on the safe side side I followed the advice given at biologyofkundalini.com website to drink plenty of water and eat three to four stalks of celery a day. Celery, it seems, is a food that can help lower blood pressure naturally. With meditation, I am learning to relax even more when faced with a situation that is scary to me personally. Perhaps the kundalini will release me from “white coat syndrome” but one thing for sure I know is that one day I will give healthy blood pressure readings through this process of working with dreams. Why? Because I not only dreamed that I have good blood pressure but have dreamed of giving resting results! Recently, I had another dream where my doctor was examining me and she said jubilantly, “We did it!” Well, the thing “we” have been working on is getting the blood pressure down to normal while showing relaxed readings through natural means! This is good news. I don’t want to go through the rest of my life being in a panic when I see the doctor or have a blood pressure done. Now I see through dreams that it can be done.

Dreams and Intuitive Meditation Can Monitor the Ebb and Flow of Kundalini Energy

St. Michael as an expression of healing energy.

In an earlier blog, Dreams Can Forecast a Kundalini Event, I wrote that dreams can foretell the oncoming of a kundalini event. While this is important to prepare the recipient for the significant life changes that will then take place on the spiritual, psychological and physical levels, I think an even greater service dreams can do is to monitor the ebb and flow of kundalini and give clues to how the energy is working in the body and what parts of the body are being affected—especially when the energy is strong and is making dramatic or frightening expressions, such as in repeated migraines, loose bowels or weird jerking actions.

As Patricia Garfield demonstrated in The Healing Power of Dreams, dreams can provide information on the stages of health such as the onset, expression and healing of a disease. After observation many dreams over a number of years, I found this observation can also be applied to the stages of kundalini and its ebbs and flow, allowing me to generally know what to expect from the energy. For example, a common dream that prepares me for a kundalini clearing indicating negative energy will soon be released is a dream of a need to use the bathroom. To illustrate, a short while back I knew I would be taking on additional work and study responsibilities. However, before that could happen, I had a dream that told me I had some kundalini clearing work to do.

Dream

I am sitting at a table backstage with my mother. I am waiting to go on stage in front of an audience. My mother tells me that before I go on stage, I need to go to the bathroom.

Shortly after this dream, I began a long period of strong clearing of negative energy. In addition to the ramp up of energy I felt on a daily basis, I experienced building migraines that released by sending energy and warmth throughout my body. Often these releases would be accompanied by strong but passing emotions of fear, anger or sadness.

Intuitive Meditation Can Also Be Useful for Monitoring Kundalini

I may also do an intuitive meditation if I want an immediate answer to what is causing a weird physical sensation. For example, I felt a curious pain on the left side of my head and decided to do an intuitive meditation to ask what was causing this. After settling in and connecting to my heart center, the vision of St. Michael the Archangel, a protecting and healing angel, appeared looking very much like the image above. It was an amazing shock but it did remind me of a powerful dream I had several years ago of an angel removing pieces of shit from the left side of my head by picking it out through my ear! Realizing what was going on, I then had the feeling I was in good hands and could relax into the process of letting the migraine do its work of releasing negative energy.

Symbols for Kundalini in Dreams: Volcanoes

A volcano is a symbol for kundalini in dreams.

Volcano: A Symbol for Kundalini

A volcano about ready to erupt is a repeated symbol that appeared in my dreams before and after I had a kundalini release. It is not surprising that this symbol should show itself, given the power of a volcano to release energy deep from within the earth, spew content up to the heavens and have it rain down on everything. When kundalini is released it is often experienced as very strong energy erupting into consciousness through the pathway of the spine, going to the head and then descending to the rest of the body. In my case, after the initial rising of the energy, I generally experience kundalini as descending or falling from my head. The whole body becomes animated as the energy surges through it. Blocks to the flow of this energy within the body can cause uncomfortable and even painful sensations and unusual physical reactions such as itching, twitching or for some people, temporary paralysis.

Working with a Dream About a Volcano

Bearing in mind that dreaming of a volcano can mean many things, one has to ask what is going on—what energy is ready to explode in the life of the dreamer—that is manifesting such a power-laden dream. It could be long repressed anger or some other strong feeling. Or it could be some outside energy ready to explode such as growing quarrel between two people or it could even represent a real live volcano ready to erupt. Only the dreamer can know.

In my case, I had had a powerful kundalini release in July of 2007. Because of the enormous physical, emotional and psychological disruption shock this presented to me, I was placed on strong medications. As I came to fully understand what had happened, and that I wasn’t mentally ill, I realized I probably shouldn’t be on the meds. With advice from experts I eventually decided to get off the meds and let myself experience what the kundalini energy had to give me—with all its strong force. However, while still in the safe and relatively quiet stage of being on the drugs when I only felt intermittent and minor surges, I had the following dream in November of 2007:

I am in Hawaii. In the distance a volcano is sending up smoke and gas into the air. I am glad I don’t live near it. We have to go indoors as pieces of ash fall from the skies.

Because I live in Hawaii where there is an active volcano, I interpreted this dream to refer to my awareness of the periodic spewing of Kilauea crater that emits volcanic ash called vog. I was genuinely glad I didn’t live immediately downwind from the volcano since the vog puts a big coating of dust on everything and exacerbates respiratory problems. However, I also understood that the dream was making me aware of my feelings about handling the kundalini energy. The dream was reminding me that while the kundalini effects were suppressed by the medications, the energy was still there sending a bit of smoke and gas. Being glad that I didn’t live near the volcano told me I wasn’t ready to go off the meds. Going indoors meant retreating to the use of drugs to avoid serious effects that might “fall from the skies.”  As a result, I did not try to go off the meds then.  Eventually, I reached the point where I felt comfortable going off the drugs and successfully did so.

Common Symbols for Kundalini in Dreams: Snakes

The Snake: A Symbol for Kundalini Rising
Caduceus - Medical Symbol for Healing

Caduceus

As the first of a blog series on common symbols for kundalini that occur in dreams I will begin with the snake. Perhaps it is one of the most popular symbols for kundalini because the Hindus have often portrayed the energy as a snake that uncoils and rises up. The snake’s movement symbolizes kundalini energy as it uncoils and rises up the spine to do its work in the body. When I had my blissful kundalini awakening in June of 2009, (not to be confused the powerful kundalini energy release I underwent in 2007), I experienced this uncanny sensation. I felt a building energy at the base of my spine and then a unique uncoiling sensation that was followed by a burst of energy igniting my first, second and third chakras. It seemed that every cell from my knees to upper abdomen was radiating pure ecstatic joy. With my mind’s eye, I saw glorious tones of red, orange and yellow extend several feet from out of my body. For a long while after, I reveled in a profound blissful state.

Perhaps because the snake has been so long associated with kundalini and its healing properties, and because the snake’s venom can heal certain conditions, the snake has long been a symbol for healing. Everyone is familiar with the ancient symbol for the medical profession, the caduceus, a rod with a snake or two wrapped around it.

A Human Caduceus

Since having experienced kundalini I now see myself as the rod surrounded by two healing snakes. This is no accident. In February 2003, I had an emotionally powerful dream of two giant golden snakes wrapped about my middle. Since then, I have come to understand that these two snakes were and are healing the 2nd and 3rd chakras, areas where I have needed healing. I also don’t think it is an accident that I have been gifted with the art of healing others as I have been healed. The caduceus is a symbol for any human who has been enfolded by the healing energy of kundalini and thus can heal others.

Look for Your Snake’s Color and Their Reappearance in Your Dreams

In your dreams, be particularly aware if snakes seek you out and wrap themselves around you. It may mean kundalini has chosen you. It is important to understand snakes can have many other meanings in dreams so noting the color of the snakes will be an important clue as to whether these snakes might be harbingers of kundalini energy. If the colors are brilliant, glowing and beautiful or are white, a symbol for spirituality, there is a good chance they may represent kundalini energy. For example in 2005 I had a dream of two snakes, a green snakes were approaching me. A month later, I dreamed of two white snakes going to the left and right in front of me. This repetition of dreams featuring a unique symbol such as a snake bears taking notice. It is another sign that something significant is happening. These dreams are telling me to take notice that whatever the snake symbolizes is coming my way.

Dreams Can Forecast a Kundalini Event

Kundalini is often portrayed as a snake

Image via Pinterest.

Kundalini energy is a phenomenon of the human experience that has probably been around as long as humans have walked the earth.  In the Indian sub-continent, peoples have been working with and exploring this energy for thousands of years.  In other cultures, it has often gone unrecognized in its own right, and its expression in the soul, mind and body has been misdiagnosed as madness, emotional disorder or disease–even to the present day.   The Hindus, who know the most about it from studying it so long, say it is the powerful life force energy latent in all of us that appears in everyone in small degrees to maintain heath and procreation.  In some people, it bursts forth with great power, totally transforming the lives of those that experience it, bringing unique gifts. Unfortunately, the power can bring great havoc spiritually, psychologically and physically if a person is not prepared and does not understand what is happening.   This series of blogs on kundalini is aimed to help people detect and prepare for kundalini long before the energy shows itself.

Dreams Can Forecast Oncoming Kundalini

Dreams are perhaps the best indicators that a kundalini event is forthcoming–often years before the energy will be felt in the dreamer–because dream images symbolize different energies in the body’s energy field.  If one knows common symbols for kundalini in dreams, one can be warned and prepared.  This will be a real help for meeting the profound changes to come.

It is only one great benefit that ongoing dreamwork provides.  Another is getting to recognize your personal symbols for the energies operating and influencing your mind, body and spirit.  Should you be destined for a kundalini event in your life, you can find that your dreams will forecast this in symbols that both are common to others for this event and symbols that are unique to yourself.  At the present, it is important to learn the common symbols.  In my next blog on kundalini, I will write about the common symbols for kundalini that appear in dreams.
